Save the Maitai to launch legal challenge to subdivision development

Close to 200 people turned out for a public meeting held by the Save the Maitai campaign at the Boathouse.

“Save the Maitai campaigners plan to launch a legal challenge to a proposed residential subdivision in the Kākā Valley.

Speakers from the group outlined potential legal avenues to stop the development to an audience of about 200 at the Boathouse on Monday night. The subdivision is proposed on a 287-hectare site about 3km from the Nelson CBD, stretching from Atawhai over the hills and down through Kākā Valley, which is linked to Maitai Valley.

A syndicate of two companies is behind the venture, known as the Maitahi-Bayview development – Maitai Development Co General Partner Ltd and Bayview Nelson Ltd. The group lodged a private plan change application to the Nelson City Council in April…”
