Prominent Nelsonians voice opposition to proposed Maitai development

Several prominent Nelsonians have added their voices to campaign against a planned housing development in the Kākā Valley.

Olympian Rod Dixon, health advocate Annette Milligan and actor Mark Hadlow have spoken out against the proposal, after developers lodged a private plan change application with the Nelson City Council on Friday 16 April 2021.

Annette Milligan said with developments already happening across other valleys in Nelson, the Maitai was the “last unspoiled valley” in the city.

“Can we not leave this one last valley for recreation? How many cities here and around the world would gladly give a fortune for what we’ve already got?”
